In July 2024, a tornado touched down in Moravia, NY. The result was nothing short of catastrophic for this 1850’s barn. I helped clean up the wreckage and managed to find some old growth lumber in solid condition. Farmers with collapsed barns will often burn this wood or let it rot due to a shortage of time. A great way to divert this waste is by creating furniture pieces.
Sourcing
Prior to working with the salvaged wood, I insured that it was dry using a moisture meter and remove any nails to avoid damaging the planer and jointer. I also checked for structural integrity, avoiding excessive wormholes or rot.
